Welcome to my website. I have set up this website (helped by my youngest son Matthew) to give you all ( and I hope there’s a lot of you out there) easy access to information about me and my writing. Well, mostly about my writing, my own life is rather boring, peaceful one might say but definitely boring.
I am concentrating this year on finishing my novel ‘The Swan’s Egg.’ 30,000 words so far. Whether or not I ever find a publisher is another matter. I have two unpublished YA novels on hand already but, while I am writing, I am full of hope. I am a very slow writer mostly because I edit as I go. I know. I know. You are not supposed to write that way but it’s the only way I can. I like to have each sentence perfect (!) before I go onto the next. Rather like building a wall.
This novel is loosely based on my own early life. I think that’s called ‘faction’. It also probably leaves me wide open to being sued if it is successful. Again something to worry about later.
I have recently joined the University of the Third Age. I am involved in giving a Creative Writing course – oh, the power, me in charge! For myself, I am taking a maths course because I’ve never understood maths and I’m hoping that’ll all change and I’ll find what I missed out on at school. Enlightenment.???
I have been asked by Tiggy Johnson, editor of ‘Page Seventeen,’ to judge their literary competition, short stories not poetry, which I regard as a privilege. It is something I am looking forward to. Because of course reading (as well as writing) is my passion.
I don’t know if it’s relevant but I have two cats and a garden full of friendly plants. (I left all the unfriendly ones behind when I shifted from Birdwood and sometimes I miss them).
The only other things I need to mention are my contact details viz
